AAN News Scroll Overlay Function

Here’s how to add your own AAN News Scroll Overlay.  First place the Functions Module on the map, then call the overlay with this code, in the init.sqf for example.:

title = parsetext "<t size='2.3'>Rabbits Overrun Zargabad</t><br />Thousands of rabbits are terrorizing local women in the Takisani town of Zargabad."; 
scroll = parsetext "Military Units across Takistan report dance outbursts are on the rise - A-10s have been spotted flying upside down more often than not - Missing M16 Rifles found!"; 
nul = [title,scroll] spawn BIS_fnc_AAN;

Thanks to Koni on the BIS forums, here’s how to end the AAN Overlay early if you don’t want it displayed during the entire intro:

3000 cuttext ["","plain"];

      This feature is really only for use in intros or as part of a video you’re making. Only in a camera scene. I’ll work up a quick demo tonight to show it in action.

    Two problens buddy, dont work the intros in multiplayer and make my game crash in the end of the mission.
    In singleplayer work the intros but crash in the end.

      Yup, Intros only work for Single Player. Not sure why your game is crashing though, sorry. 🙁

    Can you make the same mission for multi?

      Not really. Mission Intros are for Single Player only. While you could use the overlay in Multiplayer as something that runs from init.sqf you’ll run into trouble with JIP. If you join after the mission started for example, all the scripted stuff would have already happened, so the camera moves would be out of synch or showing nothing.

      Unfortunately the AAN News Overlay is a new feature with Operation Arrowhead. So, while I could make an example using ArmA2 assets, you wouldn’t be able to see it since you don’t have Arrowhead yet. It’s on sale though! 🙂

    When I use your demo mission, I don’t get an AAN overlay, just the white text from the Reporter.

    So the red AAN News doesn’t scroll across the screen, any ideas why? (I am testing this in ArmA II:OA, on Single Player Scenarios)
